Josh Hamilton just might be the most snake-bit athlete in history. He nearly lost his career to drugs, has suffered some freak injuries during his All Star career, and has struggled with addiction throughout the course of his life to the point that the Texas Rangers celebrated making the World Series last year with ginger ale rather than cracking open champagne. Now, Josh Hamilton has to deal with the fact that he has caused another man’s death. A Texas Rangers fan fell 20 feet from the upper deck at the Rangers/Oakland Athletics game, hit his head, and died while reaching for a foul ball thrown into the stands by Josh Hamilton.
Tragically, he was at the game with his son at the time he fell; he was removed from the stadium, bleeding but conscious, and died less than 3 hours later. This is not Hamilton’s fault; this is a freak injury and a freak accident. This is not the first time a fan has fallen from the upper deck at Rangers Ballpark, so maybe Hamilton can find some comfort in the fact that it wasn’t his fault the fan fell to his death; there’s obviously something wrong with Arlington if fans keep falling there.
Still, for a guy with as much baggage as Hamilton? Ugh, this is horrible.
