Modern Family won all the awards. All of them. Even for drama.
Remember last year when Modern Family was a surprise winner of the Emmy for best comedy? Well, this year, it wasn’t quite as surprising, because Modern Family dominated last night’s Emmy awards in whatever categories it was nominated in. Modern Family and its actors took home awards for Best Comedy Series, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Writing on a Comedy Series, and Best Directing for a comedy last night at the Emmys. Aside from Best Actor and Best Actress, it was a clean sweep for the ensemble comedy, which is kind of amazing when you consider how many shows it was up against.
On the drama side, things were more interesting. For example, while Mad Men won best drama, NBC’s beloved Friday Night Lights won Best Actor (for Kyle Chandler) and Best writing. Martin Scorsese actually nabbed his first Emmy in eight nominations for his directing of Boardwalk Empire. Perhaps most importantly, HBO’s epic series Game Of Thrones won something in spite of its popularity, thanks to Peter Dinklage claiming a much-deserved Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in the drama category.
Here’s the complete list of Emmy winners from last night’s broadcast.
