Google+ is now waiting patiently for your sign-up.
Remember when people were scrambling to get invitations to Google+, and even going behind the back of the system to sneak invite people? Remember when Google+ was the hottest social network, thanks to its grown-up population and lack of obnoxious, spammy games and apps and whatnot? Well, if you haven’t gotten through the doors of Google+, now you can. Google+ is officially open to the public, going from a field trial to an open beta test.
“For the past 12 weeks we’ve been in field trial, and during that time we’ve listened and learned a great deal,” says Google’s Senior Vice President of Engineering Vic Gundotra. “We’re nowhere near done, but with the improvements we’ve made so far we’re ready to move from field trial to beta, and introduce our 100th feature: open signups. This way anyone can visit google.com/+, join the project and connect with the people they care about.”
Is anyone still excited about Google+? Is Facebook still feeling threatened? I don’t know if open invites will help Google+ gain traction, but it surely can’t hurt.
