Sometimes it’s hard to say goodbye to a dear friend, but even then you shouldn’t haul his dead carcass around town and abuse his ATM card.
In a real-life version of Weekend at Bernie’s corpse abuse, two Denver men were arrested after taking a dead friend along for a night out the town. Robert Jeffrey Young and Mark Rubinson visited several night spots including a strip joint and a place called Teddy T’s after discovering their friend was dead.
Young, who had been taken in as a long-term guest by Jeffrey Jarrett (not the wrestler), came home late one evening to discover his host dead. Instead of calling the authorities, Young opted to track down his friend Rubinson and begin a morbid night out on the town. The two put Jarrett’s body into Rubinson’s Lincoln Navigator and drove him to a bar. They left the dead body in the vehicle while going in for drinks. It’s a good thing for them Peter Fonda wasn’t filming in Denver, since Fonda has already found one dead guy in a car.
The three “friends” made one more stop before hauling the corpse home and heading out again, making a stop at a Mexican restaurant and ending the night at Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club. The pair used Jarrett’s ATM card for all their evening adventures. Eventually around 4 a.m. they flagged down a police officer to report the death.
I guess it was just too inconvenient to make that 911 call when Jarrett’s body was first discovered. If they turn this story into a new version of Weekend at Bernie’s, they need to hire Chuck Lamb, professional dead guy, to play Jarrett.
