It took a lot longer than expected, but Bank of America has finally seen the light.  The troubled nationwide banking firm announced a $5 fee for debit card use at the end of September.  Well, it’s the beginning of November, and it looks like that fee won’t be happening.  Bank of America has called off plans to charge customers $5 per month for their debit cards.  Considering just how much of a bath they took in the public relations area over the few extra thousand dollars per month they’d have made in fees, you have to consider the $5 debit card fee one of the biggest mistakes in Bank of America history.

“We have listened to our customers very closely over the last few weeks and recognize their concern with our proposed debit usage fee,” said BofA co-COO David Darnell.  “Our customers’ voices are most important to us.  As a result, we are not currently charging the fee and will not be moving forward with any additional plans to do so.”

Well, of COURSE you’re not charging the fee now, because you were losing customers left and right because of it.  It’s easy to change course when you’ve obviously screwed up; the hard part will be to win back former customers and regruntle the currently disgruntled customers you’ve still got.
