What goes around, comes around is an old saying that refers to karmic payback. Do bad things and bad things will happen to you. Do good things and you will be rewarded in the long term. Unless you’re Citizen Superhero Phoenix Jones, that is.
Good Samaritan Victor Giesbrecht didn’t have to wait too long for the payback for his good deed. Mere minutes after pulling over and changing a flat tire for two women in Menomonie, Wisconsin, those same two women saved his life. Not quite up to NASCAR pitcrew speeds but still pretty quick, Giesbrecht needed a mere 15 minutes to put on a spare tire for Sara Berg and Lisa Meir. Both cars got back on the road and continued their journeys.
Just two miles down the road, Berg and Meir spotted Giesbrecht’s car pulled over and his wife signaling for help. The women pulled over to the shoulder and learned their Samaritan was suffering a heart attack. Good news for Giesbrecht, Berg is a certified nursing assistant and began applying CPR. Thankfully, there was no nearby roadkill needing resuscitation. Calls were made for help and a Wisconsin State Trooper and a Dunn County deputy arrived on the scene. All deputies carry AEDs in their cars and after three shocks by the device Giesbrecht was revived.
Airlifted from the scene, the Good Samaritan is in stable condition and recovering. Berg and Meir were both assured that the exertion from changing the tire did not cause Giesbrecht’s medical emergency.
Giesbrecht will join the ranks of good guys like the homeless man who returned $3,300 and a laptop or the beer bottle-wielding man who tried to stop a robbery.
