Lots of people are saying the year 2011 was a down year for the movie industry. Higher ticket prices may have saved Hollywood’s rear end.
Maybe releasing nearly 30 sequels had something to do with that. However, eight of those sequels are among the top grossing movies of the year, including the one shown above – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 – which came in as the No. 1 money maker of the year. The Mission Impossible franchise received a jolt of unexpected energy with its Ghost Protocol edition. Who knew The Fast and the Furious franchise would still be super popular after five movies?
Both the Twilight and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchises raked in the dough, but very few good reviews, while the latest Muppets movie got all kinds of rosy reviews to go along with lots of box office cash.
There is no doubt about the financial flops of 2011, with Mars Needs Moms being the biggest bomb of them all.
If you don’t remember most, if not all, of the best and worst of 2011, Kidnin has compiled a great montage of the year in cinema with bits and pieces from 226 movies linked together.
Looking ahead, it appears 2012 will be another big year for superheroes as Batman, aka The Dark Knight, and The Avengers are all teasing us with great trailers. Let’s hope 2012 brings plenty of cinematic fun.
