This is Andrew Luck, the future of the NFL.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Forget the holidays, the real fun begins once the Christmas tree comes down and life starts to get back to normal in the wake of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That’s right, kids; Sunday was Week 17 of the NFL, and that means the future is starting to take shape. The NFL Playoffs picture is set, and so is the 2012 NFL Draft order for the teams getting lottery picks. Did your favorite team miss the playoffs but lose the draft?
Here’s how the draft works out: the Indianapolis Colts have won the Andrew Luck sweepstakes with an incredibly bad 2-12 record. Falling behind them in draft pick order are the St. Louis Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There are multiple draft pick positions still to be decided by coin flips at the NFL Draft Combine in February, including the fate of a top 10 pick that will go to either Miami or Carolina (who struck gold last year with Cam Newton).
As for the other draft picks, as the playoffs start and teams get eliminated from contention starting Saturday, that picture will help clear up the rest of the draft soon enough; for now, every team left standing has a shot at Super Bowl glory (even Denver!)
