Call it the inverse of that time a woman called 911 to get a date. When Chris Collins met Evagelina Paredes, he was instantly smitten. Unfortunately, Officer Collins was giving Ms. Paredes a speeding ticket in suburban Chicago, Illinois at the time. Undeterred by the fact he met her while giving her a citation, Officer Collins tracked down the woman he gave a ticket and gave her a second request: a date. That’s right, a cop asked out a woman after giving her a speeding ticket.
Here’s part of the note, where you can see the cop using humor to attempt to defuse the awkwardness: “It’s Chris … that ugly bald Stickney cop who gave you that ticket. … I know this may seem crazy and you’re probably right, but truth is I have not stopped thinking about you since. I don’t expect a girl as attractive as you to … even go for a guy like me, but I’m taking a shot anyways. I did cost you $132 – least I can do is buy you dinner.”
Unfortunately for Collins, it wasn’t a love match. Instead, Ms. Paredes is now suing Officer Collins in federal court in Chicago over his attempted wooing. I guess that a no, right? Seems like a pretty strong no to me.
