Peyton Manning is rumored to be retiring. That’s not terribly unusual news. After all, Peyton Manning has had three neck surgeries during his career, including spinal fusion surgery, and he missed all of last season while recovering and rehabbing his injured neck. That’s a very serious injury, and very serious surgery. In his absence, the Indianapolis Colts went 2-14 and positioned themselves to draft Manning’s successor, Andrew Luck, so if there was ever a time to exit on top of the world, it’s probably now. However, there’s one weird thing. Peyton Manning’s latest retirement rumor was tweeted by none other than Rob Lowe.
Over the course of three Tweets, Rob Lowe said this: “Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to NFL. Wow.” “‘My people are saying Manning will retire today. What do you hear?” “‘#Coltsfans, let’s hope my info is wrong. Don’t like being wrong, but this time… I’m hoping #NFL #Manning.'”
Does Rob Lowe have some kind of insider information that no one else connected to the NFL does? If so, he’d be scooping even Manning’s brothers and father on this particular bit of news; all of the Mannings have said that if Peyton’s retiring, they don’t know anything about it. Rob Lowe isn’t connected to Peyton, as far as I know, but he doesn’t say who his people are and he’s rumored to know Colts owner Jim Irsay.
Maybe Lowe meant Peyton isn’t coming back to the Colts, not the NFL in general… that’s one I’d believe.
