The gull-wing doors scream "Future!"
Will consumers purchase an electric car from the guy who started PayPal? That’s a good question, and it’s one that Elon Musk is asking. Tesla Motors, the electric car company famous for turning sports cars green (and I’m not talking via paint job), is at it again. Not long ago, Tesla announced the Model S, a sedan-type production car scheduled to go on sale this year. Adding to that line, Tesla has announced the Model X, an electric-powered SUV for the modern green family.
“Minivans and SUV have been trying for years to overcome these problems,” said Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk at a demonstration event for the Model X.
The Model X seats 7, has ample storage, yet also accelerates faster than a Porsche 911, going from 0 to 60 in a staggeringly fast 4.4 seconds. According to Tesla, the Model X has more seating and storage space than the average SUV and a trunk in the front, which is incredible when you consider that it also has GULL WING DOORS! Or rather, in Tesla speak, falcon wing doors, but still! It’s John DeLorean’s dream come to life! The Model X will sell for $57,000, well above the price of a normal SUV but well below the price for a Tesla Roadster sports car.
The upcoming electric Toyota RAV4 will also sport Tesla’s Model X power plant, just in case you want to try before you buy and you don’t live in California.
