Tony Robbins is the world’s foremost motivational speaker. When you think of motivational speaking, you think of Robbins and his giant teeth. At the motivational event “Unleash the Power Within,” one of the big stunts was a firewalking pit, in which people walk with bare feet across hot coals in a long pit. As it turns out, letting untrained amateurs walk across fire is a bad idea. Some 21 attendees were injured when a Tony Robbins firewalking stunt went bad. As it turns out, there’s a reason shoes were invented.
“I heard wails of pain, screams of agony,” said 25-year-old Jonathan Correll, an attendee at the event at the San Jose Convention Center. “It was people seriously hurting, like they were being tortured. First one person, then a couple minutes later another one, and there was just a line of people walking on that fire. It was just bizarre, man.”
The event was the Friday night capstone to the four-day event, which kicked off Friday in San Jose, California. The entire event took about 90 minutes from start to finish, though it is not known how many people took off their shoes and wandered into the fire. Enjoy your toasted feet!
