On the surface, the reformation of Chad Ochocinco was going well. He wasn’t playing great, but he looked good in training camp, he had recently gotten married and changed his name back to Chad Johnson, and he was with his hometown Miami Dolphins after being cut by the Patriots in the off-season. Then, everything changed drastically. Chad Johnson was hit with a double-whammy; on Saturday, he was arrested for domestic violence after police accused him of headbutting his new wife Evelyn Lozada and less than 24 hours later, he’s out of a job. Chad Johnson has been cut by the Miami Dolphins.
“I reminded them that on April 10 in our first team meetings, I said, ‘Guys, I’d love to stand up here and tell you we’re never going to have a problem here in Miami,” said Dolphins coach Joe Philbin. “Do we want high-character guys? Yes. All 31 other coaches are going to say the same thing. But I specifically told them on April 10 that there will be problems that arise and you have to deal with them honestly and openly and directly. You’ve got to learn from mistakes and move on, and you can’t hide from the problem.”
The curse of reality television. Chad Johnson has been a reality star before, and his wife Evelyn Lozada is a fixture on VH1’s Basketball Wives. The pair were also the budding stars of HBO’s Hard Knocks franchise, which follows the trials and tribulations of an NFL team during training camp. Looks like Hard Knocks is going to have to find a new star.
