Forget Black Friday. The general rule of holiday creep is that holiday preparations start earlier every year, and Christmas is the creepiest of all the creeping holidays. The Christmas season starts on Halloween, not Thanksgiving, so it’s only natural that the biggest day of the Christmas shopping season will start a little earlier, too. Walmart has announced that its Black Friday sales will begin at 8 PM on Thanksgiving night and will come in three different product waves.
The first wave kicks off at 8 PM on Thanksgiving Thursday with sales on toys, games, home goods, and clothing. The second wave is at 10 PM on Thanksgiving with deals on electronics and home theater equipment. The third and final wave will take place at 5 AM–the traditional Walmart start time–on Black Friday and will feature all the rest of Walmart’s available deals.
Interestingly, Walmart has three guaranteed deals in place for those in stores and online between 10 and 11 PM on Friday: a 16GB Apple iPad $399 with a free $75 Walmart gift card; an Emerson 32-inch HD LCD TV for $148, and an LG Blu-ray player for $38. Walmart believes it can meet the demand for these items, so anyone online or in stores between those hours will be able to pick one up. This may be history’s first guaranteed Black Friday deal, so you can leave your pepper spray at home!
