This is what an air-powered drug cannon looks like.

When it comes to getting drugs across the border and into the United States, Mexican narcotraffickers are a creative and busy bunch.  They have created massive tunnels to sneak under the border and submarines to swim through and around the border where security is weakest.  Drug shipment routinely come through the air along the US border with Mexicali, Mexico, but not by plane.  Mexican police discovered a marijuana cannon used to fire packages of weed over the border and into the US.

The device was actually pretty genius.  The barrel of the cannon is a plastic pipe.  That pipe is connected to a metal tank used as an air compressor, with an old car engine powering the whole device.  Pot goes in one end, the cannon is fired, and the drugs land in the US to be picked up by dealers in this country (or very lucky hikers).  The device hurled packages up to 28 pounds into the US.

Border officials and local police last week informed their Mexican counterparts that they were finding a lot of packages that had been hurled over the border, and this is what Mexican police found when they went looking.  Of course, how they missed something that’s obviously meant for no good is another question, but maybe they didn’t drive the Drug Mule 5000 into town to pick up fast food.
