A pile of Oscars waiting to be handed out in 2014.
If you’re already looking forward to the 86th annual Academy Awards, then you’ll have to wait a little longer than usual, even if you’re the unannounced next celebrity host. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Oscars, has had to move their awards ceremony back a month to avoid an event big enough to move pretty much any event back out of its way: the Winter Olympics. The Oscars will be moved back to March 2, 2014, to avoid interfering with the Olympics.
It’s a very smart decision for the Oscars crew; everyone loves when Hollywood throws itself a party, but nobody wants to miss the snowboarding gold medal or anything cool like that. This way, television fans don’t have to make any tough choices and the DVR remains untaxed by pulling in the unpredictable awards show which can vary wildly in length due to overruns, speech length, and many other factors.
