Three weeks ago, Jason Kidd was a member of the New York Knicks and was on his way out of the playoffs. Nine days ago, Jason Kidd announced his retirement from the National Basketball Association. Now, he is becoming the NBA’s newest head coach. Owner Mikhail Prokhorov and GM Billy King have hired Jason Kidd to be the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. Jason Kidd has no coaching experience, he was never an assistant coach, he was never a broadcaster, nothing. Jason Kidd is going from the court to the coaching box without any stops in the middle.
“It’s a role I have been studying for over the course of my playing days,” Kidd said in a statement released by his new team. “Championship teams are built on being prepared, playing unselfishly and being held accountable, and that’s how I expect to coach this basketball team.”
Kidd has a history with the Nets franchise. Kidd led the team to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in their New Jersey Nets days before winning an NBA Championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2010.
