Paul Rudd will be donning the tiny cowl of Ant-Man.
Every “phase” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has one movie that seems like it’s going to be kind of a risky sell. After the comparatively grounded techno-realism of Iron Man and the familiar story in The Incredible Hulk, Marvel took a gamble and indulged in a little cosmic weirdness with Thor, then made a supreme gamble with The Avengers. That gamble paid off, and now Marvel is flush with cash, has some great new series in the pipeline, and the first two entries in Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 2, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, have paid off handsomely. The jury is still out on Guardians of the Galaxy, but Marvel’s not slowing down any time soon. The first movie in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is probably going to be Ant-Man, a story about a guy who can shrink himself down and talk to insects. Seems crazy, right? However, if anyone can make it work, it’s Paul Rudd. Paul Rudd has signed on to play Hank Pym in Ant-Man.
Ant-Man will star Rudd as the titular discoverer of Pym Particles. The movie will be directed by the brilliant (and my personal favorite) Edgar Wright, with the script coming from the pen of Wright and Attack the Block writer and director Joe Cornish (another brilliant movie). Kevin Feige will again produce for Marvel Entertainment. The film will be released on July 31, 2015.
