In 2011, Adrian Peterson blew out his left knee, tearing his ACL and MCL. The next year, he came back and just missed breaking the NFL single-season rushing record by 9 scant yards. In that spectacular year, he scored both the MVP and the Offensive Player of the Year awards in a masterful season running behind the line of the Minnesota Vikings. That masterful streak of rushing performances took a season off last year, when Peterson was banned from his team and the NFL after a child abuse scandal and various other personal issues. But that was last year. Adrian Peterson has been reinstated and he’ll be rejoining the Minnesota Vikings in 2015.
If history holds, Peterson has kept himself in great shape and he’ll be spared a year of battering by NFL defenses, so he should be back and ready to take another shot at Eric Dickerson’s record yet again. I doubt his personal problems, especially now that he’s been cleared of charges and mostly free of controversy, will do any damage to his on-field performance. If anything, the break should have kept him fresh and should help him return to the field with no problem.
Now, off the field, well… let’s just hope he’ll never cut a switch again.
