In the best of times, Baltimore, Maryland, is not the best city in the world to live in. There are nice places to be sure, but the rest of the city is notorious for violence, chaos, and a general post-apocalyptic environment that would put any zombie movie to shame. It’s a troubled place, and police brutality isn’t helping things, but neither is what’s currently happening. Baltimore is beset by looting, riots, arson, and mob violence the likes of which the city hasn’t seen since 1968.
This is the result of the death of Freddie Gray, a 21-year-old black man that died in police custody after a broken neck. He was buried today, and despite his family pleading for calm and quiet and reflection, looters are going to loot whenever they get the chance. Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has announced a curfew for Tuesday night, beginning at 10 PM, but for tonight, the city is going to shatter and burn, police are going to march in force, and chaos will reign while people drive to the mall specifically to loot.
