Fashion designers look for inspiration everywhere. Some of it is pop culture, like Friday the 13th-inspired hoodies. Other fashions are inspired by low culture, like deluxe Snuggies. Some people turn to the culture of their past for inspiration, like the 8-bit video games they grew up on. Italian fashion house Moschino is partnering with Nintendo to launch a line of Mario-themed fashions.
According to Moschino, the clothing line will feature “printed T-shirts and knitted sweaters, characterized by the graphic of video game hero Mario, along with a series of colorful bags and accessories in leather, ranging from backpacks to bucket bags, and from wallets to belts – all personalized with images of Luigi, Princess Peach, coins, stars and mushrooms that appear during Mario’s many adventures.”
The Mario shirts go on sale at Moschino’s boutiques in Milan, Rome, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles on December 5. The shirts will also be available via Moschino’s retail partners, if you have a few hundred dollars to spend on a Mario shirt that reminds you of the one you had when you were 8.
