William Shatner’s been all around the world, and he’s been involved in all sorts of things, from classic sci-fi TV and movies to books and personal apperances. However, I don’t think he’s ever been involved in something like this. William Shatner faces a $170 million lawsuit from a man claiming to be his son. Peter Sloan claims to be the biological child of William Shatner, and he’s wanting the actor to put his money where his mouth is. That’s $30 million in compensatory damages, $90 million in punitive damages, and $50 million in pain and suffering.
Sloan, who goes by the professional name Peter Shatner, was given up for adoption at 5 days old by his biological mother, Canadian actress Kathy McNeil. McNeil worked with Shatner in Toronto. When they reunited, she confessed his paternity. Sloan then met Shatner for the first time in 1984 on the set of TJ Hooker. Shatner admitted he was Peter’s father, and invited him to come back to the set. However, after that, Sloan was contacted by Shatner’s representatives and told he wasn’t the actor’s son, the actor wouldn’t take a paternity test, and to keep quiet about his claims so as to not damage Shatner’s career. He met Shatner again in 2009.
However, in 2011, Shatner’s representatives sent Sloan a letter, saying, “There have been many people over the years who have claimed to be his children or other relatives. He is an incredibly busy, eighty year-old man, and is not interested in spending time discussing this issue with you or any such individuals.”
