This is a 29-year-old high school student.
Jonathan Nicola has everything you’d want in a high school basketball player. He’s not Kobe Bryant, but he’s got some very good qualities. He’s 6’9, athletic, and seems to be a relatively good student, since he’s able to maintain grades good enough to play sports at Catholic Central High School in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Plus he’s only in the 11th grade! However, there’s one big problem with Nicola. Or, should I say, an old problem. Jonathan Nicola is a 29-year-old high school student.
He doesn’t acknowledge any wrong-doing. He blames, of all people, his mother. Since South Sudan wasn’t even a country when Nicola was born, it’s not surprising that there are no records about his birth to be found. He asked his mother for more details, and every time he asked, she gave him a different birth year and a different age. Unsurprisingly, he’s a little confused about his hearing, and very regretful about the dishonesty. Still, he’s being held due to his status as a flight risk. So yeah, Nicola won’t be hanging out with the marching band any time soon.
“I aways keep asking what is the specific age that I was born, and she has told me that she could not remember,” Nicola said in an April 19 immigration hearing. “Over (in South Sudan) . . . not every year we study . . . we always keep moving to different schools, and over there, they do not ask your age. They do not ask you nothing.”
