It was a match made in heaven. Once upon a time, when you got married, you stayed married, but these days, marriage is a gamble. Half of all marriages end in divorce, so you’re kind of rolling the dice when you tie the knot. Are you going to live happily ever after, or are you going to lose your shirt and be miserable? Perhaps it was in that spirit that UK gambling company Online BingoClub decided to sponsor the wedding of Suzanne Latta and Matt Brown. Unfortunately, the Church of England says no dice and scrubbed the gambling-sponsored wedding ceremony.
The plan was for the bride and groom to sport the Online BingoClub logo. In exchange, the company would contribute 5,000 pounds to the wedding’s cost. Said blushing bride Suzanne, “We were both absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winners of the Bingo Bride competition. But our minister (Rev. Tony Watts of Glenmuick Church in Ballater, Scotland) is not allowing any photos in the church during the ceremony, it is a sacred place and he wants no distractions, on speaking to him he didn’t approve of gambling being advertised in his church.”
