March is a month of contrasts. So far, every day of the month has been as gray, wet, and nasty as a pile of discarded middle school gym socks. Blech, even the grossest analogy I could think of isn’t as gross as the weather has been lately, but I know that’s going to change. Eventually the sun will shine, flowers will bloom, birds will sing again, and the dingy cold grayness will become the springtime we’ve all been waiting for. Until that happens, let’s warm our spirits by checking out the Colour Lover’s gallery of colorful places to see before you die.

I love looking at photographs like this, but at the same time, I don’t think we appreciate the world around us enough. For example, if you drive a day in any direction from me, you’ll run into some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire world. The gateway arch is in St. Louis. Six hours north is Chicago, the Sears Tower, and historic Wrigley Field. Three hours south is Music City USA, the neon lights of Nashville, Tennessee. Three hours east and I’m in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Six hours or so east and I’m at the beach.

Do I stop to appreciate this splendor? Do I even really stop and take in the sites of my very own hometown, with its riverside Great Lawn and stellar skyline? No, I don’t. I guess I don’t appreciate it much because I live here and see it every day. I’m going to try to look at the world around me with fresh eyes (once the sun’s back); why don’t you do the same? You don’t have to go to Moscow to see something beautiful.
