There’s not a lot of unexplored territory remaining on the good old planet we call Earth. Pretty much everything land-based has been explored, numerous times, and it’s a rare place that affords a glimpse into the way mankind once trekked across the most dangerous places on earth armed only with gumption, smarts, and a box of canned onions. These men, people like Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton, risked life and limb just because there was something out there for them to see. Now you can see the remains of their turn of the 20th Century campsites in the Arctic without having to travel to Antarctica.
Even today, with modern building materials and whatnot, Antarctica isn’t exactly a primo vacation spot and is generally only of interest to scientists and people who really love penguins. I’d love to go there, despite all that. It’d definitely be a cool vacation spot (sorry about that, it won’t happen again).
