A Daily Dose of Zombies

Posted 4/15/2008 12:10 pm by Stephanie Sturgis

Who doesn’t love the undead?

Zombie Cowboy

Come on, admit it zombies are the tops. The shuffling, the moaning, the decaying, the brain eating - it’s all sort of endearing.

If you need a daily zombie fix, has PopFi got a site for you.

Artist Rob Sacchetto is posting an undead image every 24 hours at his site, Zombie Daily. It’s not exactly portraits drawn on teeth, but it’s pretty crazy.

Sacchetto’s witty work usually draws a snicker or a giggle. Whether it’s a child zombie crying over a dropped ice cream cone or a creepy undead Farrah Fawcett posing in her swim suit on the beach or a decomposing stripper you can’t help but smile at his creations.

Posted 9/27/2008 11:00 am by Ron Hogan

One of the biggest icons in film history, Paul Newman, passed away last night at age 83.  You can read a great article about his life (with a lot of amazing pictures) here, or look at the press release issued by the Newman’s Own Foundation here.  Either way, the world is missing a giant of […]

    A Tribute To Yankee Stadium

Posted 9/24/2008 2:08 pm by Ron Hogan

Since I said goodbye to the much less historic RCA Dome, I’d be remiss if I didn’t say goodbye to the big ballpark in the Bronx, Yankee Stadium. Built in 1923, Yankee Stadium has seen a ton of history. As such, there are lots of neat things that happened there. Mental Floss […]

“Dome, Sweet Dome” No More: The Deflation Of The RCA Dome

Posted 9/24/2008 12:45 pm by Ron Hogan

It will only take about 45 minutes to permanently alter the skyline of Indianapolis, Indiana.  Twenty-four years ago, the RCA/Hoosier Dome was opened.  At 10:30 AM this morning, the giant fans keeping the stadium’s roof up were turned off starting the deflation process.  By the time you read this, the home stadium of the Indianapolis […]

    Haunted, Abandoned Ghost Towns

Posted 9/23/2008 1:11 pm by Ron Hogan

With the arrival of fall, that means Halloween is right around the corner. For those of us who are fascinated by all things macabre, that means haunted house tours, ghost walks, and if you’re really lucky, a visit to some awesome ghost towns like the seven scary ghost towns over at Cult Case. […]

    The First Day Of Fall

Posted 9/22/2008 12:10 pm by Ron Hogan

It is the first day of fall today, and everywhere the weather is starting to cool down (finally, September had some days in the 90-degree range here!).  That means Halloween is right around the corner, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas and New Year’s Day, then 2009.  Time really does fly, doesn’t it?  If your trees are […]

The USS Harry S. Truman In Lego Form

Posted 9/22/2008 9:01 am by Ron Hogan

It took $20,000 worth of plastic gray bricks, but Malle Hawking of Munich, Germany, has built a LEGO replica of the USS Harry S. Truman, one of the US Navy’s nuclear aircraft carriers.  As you can read in his story, he was inspired by the Discovery Channel documentary “City of Steel,” about the ship’s construction, […]

Bigfoot On The Beach Or Surfin’ Sasquatch

Posted 9/18/2008 2:17 pm by Ron Hogan

As dedicated Bigfoot blogger NewsComa could tell you, Sasquatch likes to party. Judging by the picture of Bigfoot’s recent trip to Roanoke, Virginia, he likes to party just a little bit too much. That’s why the poor man-ape is passed out face-down on the sand. Fortunately, he’s got that thick woolly coat […]

    After The Gas Crash

Posted 9/14/2008 5:56 pm by Ron Hogan

Everyone and their mother is scared about the supply of gas.  Thanks to Hurricane Ike clobbering America’s major gas refining/oil producing area not long after the previous hurricane, Gustav, hit nearly the same area, fuel prices have shot up throughout the country.  Where I live, gas went from $3.40 to $4.15 in two days, triggering […]

    Accidentally Naughty Signs

Posted 9/13/2008 12:25 am by Ron Hogan

There are always signs out there that, when you look at them, you just know whoever put the sign up probably wasn’t reading it closely.  As someone who wasted five years of college as an English major (plus a year of grad school, so that’s six years of wasted time and money), I see signs […]

    Six Towers For Real-World Villains

Every cool bad guy has his own signature home base. The Legion of Doom had the cleverly-named Hall of Doom. Darth Vader has the Death Star. Donald Trump has Trump Towers. If you’re going to be a villain, you need an awesome place to live, and deputydog has six menacing towers […]

There’s a little plastic guy with a big head who is popping up in the strangest of places.  His name is Bobblehead George, and his website Where’s Bobblehead George? is getting a lot of attention these days, for a very good reason.  From his home base in Nashville, Tennessee, Bobblehead George has gone to Hollywood, […]

    The Rubber Duck Invasion

Posted 9/10/2008 6:26 am by Ron Hogan

This news is a little old, but it’s too cool not to pass along, especially given how awesome the images are. On August 31, the annual Great British Duck Race took place in London. Over 250,000 ducks were released into the River Thames, a new Guinness World Record for the most rubber ducks […]

Human beings can do a lot of things out of necessity.  For example, let’s take a gander at the Chand Baori, a famous well from India.  Yes, that’s the well above… the crazy thing with the thousands of stairs.  Actually, it has 3,500 stairs, is 13 stories,  and is 30 meters deep.  It was built […]

Goofy Golf With Samuel L. Jackson

Posted 9/09/2008 2:54 pm by Ron Hogan

Samuel L. Jackson is one of my favorite actors of all time.  Not because he’s good (though he’s very good when he want to be), but because he’s so unapologetic about how he goes about his business.  He’s never turned down a role that I know of, he’s public about his former addiction to drugs, […]
