The Mona Lisa is one of the world’s most beloved and instantly recognizable paintings. We all know that famous smile, even if she’s covered in evil eyeballs, gross tentacles, or a cyclops. That’s only the tip of the iceberg for artist Naoto Hattori, who specializes in weird, surrealist monster artwork. Check out a great gallery of work here.
It’s not the sort of thing I would recommend hanging up, say, in the kitchen, over the dinner table, or in the living room. But once I make enough money for my home theater room and start decorating it in famous monsters and movie scenes? Yeah, I think I could definitely see a couple of Hattori paintings I’d be proud to own. The Alien DJ is a great one, and I’m also partial to the gigantic staring inner eye. Every home should have art.
