Greetings and salutations from the frosty Arctic! Well, okay, it’s not exactly Robert Scott’s camp, but it is an oasis from the snowy, blustery wind outside. If you didn’t know, there was a massive snow and ice storm that swept across the midwest, coating everything in its path with ice and snow and causing major chaos. My humble abode is one of many places that lacks electricity (and heat, and hot water, and lights…) at the moment.
If you get used to constant electronic stimulation via TV, radio, and Internet, the sudden lack of constant entertainment is like a sharp blow to the softest part of your underbelly. I have never been as bored as I am right now, and if it wasn’t for a friendly local coffee shop blessed with electricity, I would have probably frozen to death in an igloo somewhere. Needless to say, posting is going to be light until the electricity comes back on. It may be 24 hours, or it may be three days at this point.
I’m going to have to make friends with the coffee shop guy. I gave him a nice tip earlier for being open and providing me with a hot coffee IV drip, but if I’m going to be a regular here until the power is back on, I’d better really start making nice. He’s going to see a lot of me over the next few days; otherwise I’m going to have a Shining-style breakdown.
