I’m a big fan of classic video games and movies, so when someone finds a way to reinterpret a familiar game, I’m all ears. Or in the case of these awesome video games redesigned as collector’s edition DVDs, I’m all eyes. Flickr user(s) Cossix and Daphny were inspired by the famous Criterion Collection of arty extra-special-edition DVDs for their selectbutton collection (some images may be slightly controversial or NSFW).
Some of these games must be too rare for me to remember. Cossix and Daphny stayed away from the familiar Marios and Zeldas and Sonic The Hedgehogs in favor of really old games like Balloon Fight, obscure games like Chu Chu Rocket or newer games like Killer 7 and Grand Theft Auto. I guess they stuck with titles that had striking visuals, or offered the chance to be creative in pairing images to names. Not much you can do with ‘plumber’ without resorting to toilet humor.
I’ve always wondered why video games, especially re-released ones as part of a Greatest Hits line, didn’t get cooler graphics as befitting their status as popular or awesome.
