There’s no tool quite as versatile as the chainsaw. You can’t do much with it other than cut things, but boy, what can’t you cut! As vacationer Dustin Britton discovered while in Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming, sometimes the best defense against a cougar attack is whatever you have handy. When you’re off cutting wood, a slash with a chainsaw is enough to scare off any ravenous mountain lion.
Or, you can use that chainsaw on hack bloggers who write bad John Cougar Mellencamp jokes. Your choice. Either way, a chainsaw is a great weapon against pretty much anything.
I’m most impressed by the fact that Mr. Britton didn’t run away. Granted, he is a former US Marine, but still, it’s not every day that a starving carnivore cat comes barreling after you with hunger in its eyes. I’d imagine even a combat veteran might react a little differently than expected with several hundred pounds of angry fur coming at him!
To not panic and swing that chainsaw at the cat is impressive.
