You like chocolate, right? I know I do. You know what’s even better than chocolate? Free chocolate. Specifically, being told by doctors to eat chocolate every day for a year. If you’re a British woman over age 40, post-menopausal, and with type 2 diabetes, you just might be one of 40 lucky women chosen to test a new type of dark chocolate designed to fight heart disease.
The University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, is testing the new type of super chocolate. Custom made by Belgian chocolatiers, the bitter bar is a special blend of flavonoid-rich dark chocolate and soy that scientists say could be crucial to warding off heart disease in women. I assume that would go for men, as well, but they’re limiting the tests to women for a reason. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and women with this particular set of medical conditions are particularly vulnerable to heart problems.
I thought the study was great when you got to eat chocolate all day. But eating chocolate that might save your life? That’s definitely a positive! Do it for science, ladies!
