My good friend Ryan had an interesting post up the other day regarding albums. Or CDs. Or records. Or 8-Track tapes. Regarding music in general. It’s about the opening track of a CD and just how important that is. He says, and after spending most of last night and today thinking and making lists, that the Weezer song My Name is Jonas is the best opening track on a debut CD EVER. I can’t argue with that.
I added my two cents to the post in the comment section, and I recommend everyone else toss theirs in as well. There are some great suggestions in there, but really? I can’t think of a song that hooked me quite as quickly as My Name is Jonas did the first time I heard it in 1994. If you’re going to make a CD, you need to have an opening track that both grabs the listener and gets your sound across, and that does both in spades.
