While karaoke might be on the decline, it’s still really popular. When Leidy Alcantara went out to her local hot spot in Stamford, Connecticut for a sing, she never imagined that her choice of a song by Colombian singer Juanes would offend any others. As it turns out, she was wrong, because her singing was so bad that six women beat her up, chipping her tooth and sending her to the hospital. Apparently, karaoke violence is getting more and more common, just in case you needed another excuse not to sing in public.
Listen, I hate bad karaoke as much as the next guy, but it’s not worth an assault charge. I don’t care how badly someone is destroying “My Way,” it’s probably not worth thousands of dollars in legal fees and bail, potential jail time, and the inevitable civil lawsuit to kick their teeth in. You might feel better in the short term, but the long term ramifications are not worth the blissful silence.
