To say that Christy Harp has a green thumb is an understatement. After all, her latest entry into the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers Weigh-In was a spectacular 1,725-pound pumpkin. Not only does that give her supremacy over her husband Nick in their friendly pumpkin-growing rivalry, it might also be the biggest pumpkin in the world. At one point in August, her pumpkin was growing by 33 pounds per day. PER DAY!
You’d think a giant gourd like that would need special chemical fertilizer or something, but no. Christy grew her record Atlantic Giant with a mixture of manure, coffee grounds, and compost. Basically, she used the same stuff we all have access to, except she grew a pumpkin that weighs as much as a car.
