They say cats have nine lives, but curiosity nearly proved fatal for one little kitten in Te Kuiti, New Zealand. One-year-old short-hair Krillen is down to eight lives today, thanks to an ill-advised exploration of the domestic landscape. You see, this lucky little kitty survived an incredible 19 hours in a sub-zero freezer!
How did this feline survive his trip to the Arctic climes of the family freezer? He’s got his owners, Sarah Crombie and Sid Sisson, to thank for that. Sharp-eared Sarah is the one who heard Krillen’s plainative meows of peril. Quick-thinking Sid is the one who bundled the kitten in a shirt and cuddled with the cat-sicle for three hours to slowly and safely raise his body temperature.
While vets will still be taking a look at his internal organs, so far Krillen seems to have survived his adventure with no ill-effects! That’s extra remarkable considering the freezer he spent 19 hours in is left at 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius). I’m getting the chills just thinking about it!
