To further cement just how crazy people are for social media and social networking and microblogging services and all that kind of thing that people want to use but don’t really understand and soon abandon, the Global Language Monitor has announced the most used word of 2009. In case you’ve been living under a rock and have missed, it, everyone’s using Twitter now. That’s why Twitter is this year’s most used word, beating out such notables as Barack Obama, H1N1, stimulus, and vampire. It’s like an even nerdier version of unfriending.
I’m not surprised. I haven’t seen people (specifically celebrities and companies) jump on a trend like this since MySpace took off way back in the olden days. If it’s not a real celebrity using Twitter, it’s a fake celebrity. As the rich and famous go, so goes the media, normal people, and corporations.
