Jeff Miller broke a record with his staggering 72-hour TV binge. Not only did he set a new Guinness World Record for competitive sitting, he also won his third straight Ultimate Couch Potato contest at the Chicago, Illinois, ESPN Zone. The self-employed real estate mogul is only 26, but he’s got the TV watching skills of a true veteran. He needed every trick in his arsenal to survive his three days of sleepless TV watching, since the rules are pretty strict.
What are the rules for TV watching contests? The same as Guinness’s sitting competition rules. A five-minute stretch break every hour, three daily bathroom breaks, no sleeping, and no leaving the chair except for designated times. Miller’s secret to success is to take an interest in meaningless sporting events and to simply want it more than everyone else in the contest. Since this is his third straight spud trophy, he definitely wants it.
Considering that I cramp up when I’m sitting in a chair for longer than a couple of hours and staring at a wall of giant TVs for that long would give me a headache, I have to admire his, err, unusual skill set and butt of lead. Hopefully he at least got a remote, so he could flip through channels when nothing good was on!
