As the old saying goes, war is hell. However, if the eyepiece on your M-16 has anything to do with it, you just may not end up going to hell because of your actions. After all, every eyepiece made by gun sight manufacturer Trijicon is inscribed with a Bible verse. Unfortunately for the company, this practice has landed them in hot water, and now millions of dollars in government contracts might be in jeopardy. The US Army alone bought $66 million dollars worth of Trijicon merchandise in 2009.
Given that the United States and Great Britain are perceived as Christian nations involved in conflict in what are perceived as Muslim nations, any hint of religion is seen as potentially dangerous. These Jesus sights are particularly troublesome, given how many soldiers are either A) not Christian or B) not religious at all. The unknown soldier who blew the whistle on the Jesus sights said this in an email: “Everyone is worried that if they were captured in combat that the enemy would use the Bible quotes against them in captivity or some other form of propaganda.”
I can’t blame them, either. My cousin is going to be deployed at the end of this month, and this troubles me greatly. Trijicon can run their business on Christian principles all they want, but the moment they start putting soldiers in danger is the moment they’ve gone too far. This is definitely too far.
