One minute, you’re in Russia drilling for oil or propane gas or whatever Russians might be drilling for.  The next minute, somebody throws a careless match and you’ve got yourself what is literally a big flaming hole in the ground.  Over 35 years later, that gas fire is still burning in what some folks are calling a portal to Hell (though a certain Italian family might disagree).  Check out the other picture, and then eyeball the video below. 

While I wouldn’t exactly want a big flaming hole in my backyard, as a tourist attraction?  You’re guaranteed I’d go check that out, if only to say I’ve been to the big 50 meters by 20 meters flaming hole in the ground.  Just think about the hundreds of thousands of gallons of natural gas that have been wasted because of a single thoughtless action.  That thing’s been burning for my entire life plus nine years.
