When Pep Guardiola brought Polish national team player Robert Lewandowski off the bench, his FC Bayern Munich team was behind 1-0 to rivals VfL Wolfsburg.  While Bayern won the Bundesliga last year, Wolfsburg was nipping at their heels the whole way.  Lewandowski took the pitch and then proceeded to do something that’s never happened in the history of German top-flight football.  Robert Lewandowski scored 5 goals in 9 minutes as a substitute player.  Don’t believe me?  We’ve got the video to prove it.

Even in the weaker top flight divisions, that’s a staggering feat.  The Bundesliga is one of the five best leagues in Europe, and possibly tops this season based on offensive prowess.  Five goals in nine minutes is the kind of production that nets you a big contract, or at least maybe keeps you coming off the bench when your team needs firepower.  If I’m Pep, maybe I think about starting Lewandowski and seeing what he can do with a full 90 minutes?  You never know when he’s going to have this kind of outburst again.
