Shortly before the llamas made a break for freedom.
There’s nothing really nice about the retirement home. No matter how well-stocked or cared for, it’s only a bright and cheerful place if the ownership is creative about enriching the lives of residents. One of the residents of a retirement facility in Phoenix was a llama farmer, so to cheer him up a little they decided to bring in some friendly, furry llamas for residents to pet and spend time with. Pretty cute, right? It was, until the llama visit came to an end and the llamas made a break for it. Three llamas led police on an hour-long chase through the streets of Phoenix, Arizona, and a gleeful nation enjoyed every minute of it. Now you can relive the fun with the video below.

When the tied up llama broke loose, chaos reigned. “They’d go one direction — they’d run down the street — and we’d all run that way, and then we’d have to run back.”
The third llama was easily caught, but the other two had quite a merry chase indeed, leading concerned citizens and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department officers through the streets of Phoenix. All attempts to stop the escapees, from lassos to human fences to using cars to barricade roads, failed. Eventually, neighborhood citizens were able to stop the llamas and keep them safe until they could be returned to their rightful owners. Amazingly, no people or llamas were hurt.
