In what has to be one of the most fascinating image galleries I’ve seen in a long time, English Russia has a great feature on just what goes on at an airport according to your luggage. It’s a bag’s-eye view of the inner workings of an airport, from the check-in counter all the way to the pick-up at the other end of your destination, and it’s amazing just how much time your bag spends riding on conveyor belts. It seems like the entire process is nothing more than a bunch of trips on moving beltways!
While there is a lot of visible air security going on before you check your bags in, what’s impressive is the wide amount of behind-the-scenes screenings that go on once you’ve sent your luggage on back to be loaded in. Multiple scans, drug and bomb dogs, and all of it out of the public eye. I guess that explains the long lines and limited staff at the people screening locations; they’re all in the back eyeballing my luggage!
