Sometimes you have to wonder if the police have too much free time. That’s all I can ask after finding out that Warren, Michgan police arrested a 71-year-old cable television producer for selling bootlegged polka DVDs. Fred DeChausse, the producer of Polka Party on the local cable access channel, has been accused of using public equipment to manufacture bootleg polka DVDs. Police say he sold 11 of the bootleg DVDs to an undercover police officer for $150.
I know what you’re thinking: there’s a market for polka DVDs? Well, I guess so! Considering he had 11 of them available for sale, I imagine he was doing all right selling them on the side to polka fans. Still, this is kind of a victimless crime, don’t you think? Is there a huge underground market for polka DVDs that I’m not aware of? Really, the only thing this guy is guilty of is bad taste. Well, and making bootleg DVDs, but polka only harms the user.
This calls for one of Weird Al’s classic polka mash-ups, doesn’t it?
