Wow, this is not the month to work at Emaar Properties. Just a few weeks after the company was forced to close down the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, also known as “the only part that opened on time,” they’re recovering from another smack in the face. This time, an aquarium leak forced the emergency evacuation of the Dubai Mall, one of the largest malls in the world and another symbol of Dubai’s upwardly-mobile nation status. This happened mere hours after the man in charge of Emaar, Mohammed Alabbar, denied rumors of a leak in the aquarium.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love to visit Dubai, but not if everything there is falling apart due to shoddy construction or poor-quality materials. There’s enough half-destroyed stuff in America; I don’t need to travel halfway across the world to see broken-down crap. I guess I don’t have to travel that far to see cool buildings, either.
