The bhut jolokia, or ghost chili/ghost pepper, is widely known to be the hottest chili pepper in the world. It entered the Guinness World Records list in 2007, after testing determined that this potent pepper has a staggering score of 1,000,000 on the Scoville units heat scale; that’s 400 times as hot as Tabasco sauce! Now, after testing the painful applications of the chili pepper’s sting, the Indian military in the northern province of Assam have decided to turn their hot chili peppers into anti-terrorism chili grenades.
“This is definitely going to be an effective nontoxic weapon because its pungent smell can choke terrorists and force them out of their hide-outs,” claims R. B. Srivastava, director of the Defense Research and Development Organization’s Life Sciences Department. Aside from the grenade form of the pepper, the DRDO is also working on personal defense spray for women and anti-rioter pepper bombs for police forces. After the rioters and terrorists are arrested, you could also smear the resulting paste on your naan bread for a tasty treat!
