All Sylvester Jiles wanted was to get back into prison. He had his reasons. He had taken a plea bargain on a manslaughter charge and he was afraid the victim’s family would retaliate. For his own safety, he went to the safest place he could think of and tried to hop the fence at the Brevard County Detention Center in Florida. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get back in, sustaining severe cuts to his person thanks to the 12-foot-high barbed wire fencing.
However, thanks to the charges of resisting an officer and trespassing, he lost his parole and ended up back in jail for 15 years. Usually, guys try to break out of jail for a pack of smokes or whatever, but every so often you’ll get a guy who doesn’t feel safe anywhere outside prison bars, and tries to break back into jail. Generally, they end up getting what they want in the end. Something tells me this is not what Jiles had in mind when he wanted to end up in jail again.
