If you’ve ever wondered how so many bands can be lumped under the genre of rock and roll, wonder no more! Punk, emo, hardcore, nu-metal, pop-rock, grunge, heavy metal, and alternative have all been color-coded, charted, and laid out in an awesome subway-style metro map for your ease of use. Now when your MP3 player transitions you from Mr. Bungle to Weezer, you won’t get lost. You just take the grunge line to Nirvana and turn towards the intersection of pop-rock and alternative! Easy!
It’s fun to see how systems like this can be classified, and it makes a handy reference for those not as well-versed in music. It’s also amusing to see how Billy Idol and Green Day are basically existing in the same subgenre of pop-punk, some 20 years apart. I just wish the full-sized chart wasn’t so big, because that makes it hard to browse!
