There’s a danger inherent to any texting that you might do. Given how texts work, and how you have to use your phone’s contact list to make your comments, then you run a significant risk of accidentally texting the wrong person. Sometimes, that’s how your significant other finds out you’ve been cheating. Other times, you accidentally text a cop about your drug dealing activities, who then informs the task force. That’s what happened to three drug dealers in Pine Plains, New York.
When consulting with a buyer on some drugs, a text message got sent to the wrong person. The cops who fielded the text played along, responding back in kind and pretending to be the buyers. When the deal was to go down, cops swooped in and arrested three men on various drug-related charges.
The three men were caught with a staggering 60 bags full of heroin. That’s a Fear and Loathing-level of drugs to possess. Here’s a note to all would-be criminals. If you’re going to go out and break the law, it’s best to turn your phone off first so you don’t accidentally call the cops on yourself. If you’re going to deal drugs via text, you might want to make sure you wrote the number down right.
