Riders on roller coasters are always looking for new thrills. The way of the coaster is bigger, faster, longer, steeper, higher, smellier, and more extreme. However, riders on Mumbo Jumbo got an unexpected thrill as the ride gave them an extended period of inversion. For 20 minutes, riders were stuck, upside down, on the roller coaster at Flamingo Land in Malton, North Yorkshire. Talk about defying death!
Mumbo Jumbo is billed as the steepest roller coaster in the world, with dives of 112 degrees and plunges of over 100 feet. At the point where the carriage got stuck, riders dangle 50 feet over the ground, but they’re not expected to hang out for that long. In a freak accident, a poncho got blown into the works and jammed the car up. The five riders were rescued unharmed, though perhaps a bit dizzy.
